New Deicing Controller Minimizes Energy Costs
SOUTH BEND, IN -- Environmental Technology has recently introduced its new patent pending computerized HSC–4 and HSC–5 Pavement-Mounted Deicing Controllers. These combined sensor/controllers operate snow and ice melting heaters only while needed, based on pavement surface conditions, to ensure minimal energy consumption. Built-in timers keep the heaters operating after the snow stops to deliver complete snow melting without sacrificing any melting effectiveness.
The HSC–4 provides a hold-on time of one hour, while the HSC–5 has a hold-on time of 5 hours. Both units accurately measure pavement temperature by compensating for their internal heating. This eliminates the cost and complexity of a separate pavement temperature sensor. For improved efficiency, the units mount close to the deicing heaters to ensure the pavement and sensor become dry at about the same time. They signal for snow melting at temperatures below 38 degrees Fahrenheit while moisture, in any form, is on the surface. Operation continues throughout the hold-on time to allow complete melting.
These new HSC products are designed to control either hydronic or electric heaters. They are both sensing and control solutions. Add customer supplied relays, or contactors, along with a 24 volt NEC Class 2 power source for a complete high-performance, low-cost, deicing control system with the accuracy advantage of embedded sensing.
The HSC–4 & 5's new mounting system allows accurate alignment with the pavement surface. Six available conduit locations add to the installation flexibility and simplicity. The sensor subassembly is field replaceable without disturbing the pavement. Only precision machined brass, weather resistant epoxy and stainless steel parts are exposed to the pavement surface. Units are backed by a two-year limited warranty.
